Why does this look so old?
Page 170-171: Where the commercial version of Lemmings was made to show that the C64 could, sort of, keep up with the Amiga, PETSCII Lemmings is a port of the PET version of Lemmings, and does not even use the C64's color abilities. PETSCII is now interesting because it fell out of favor in professional games around 1984.
PETSCII graphics have made a comeback, and are even sometimes used in demos, here Lovecats (Atlantis 2022).
Page 173-174: Copper Booze (Booze design, 2020) uses the nearly forgotten ECM mode to make rotating colored lines, embracing limitations but also creating something new, and sharing the source code.
Celebrating the Physical C64
Page 174-175: We can also see the attraction of the physical C64 in Swedish musician-tinkerer Linus Åkesson’s Commodordion project, where Åkesson connects two C64s by a homemade bellows constructed from floppy disks, creating a functional accordion. The sound is produced by the C64s, with the volume controlled by measuring the airflow inside the bellows.
