If you’re in the game industry, Ernest Adams has made a list of 50 books you should read. It’s at Next-Gen.
It’s an excellent list – OK, so Half-Real is on it – lots of breadth, so many things to go into.
For design, I really would put Tracy Fullerton’s (et.al.) Game Design Workshop on the list though.
He even criticises A Theory of Fun which a lot of designers love, despite it spending very little time on the actual issues of fun and seeming to be nothing more than a vehicle for the author’s opinions relating to culture and art rather than fun. So it’s not just a list, but a list of stuff he has read!
