From CNN.
The US state of Missouri has banned all video games in the state’s prisons. Why? Because inmates had been playing violent video games.
In prison, inmates should “pick up skills and abilities that will allow them to go back out into society and be productive citizens,” Blunt said. “Playing video games doesn’t have anything to do with either of those objectives.”
Hmm. I always thought one of the most terrifying aspects of prison was the sheer boredom at such a place. No video games, this is just too inhumane & heartless.
Are we to take it that you’re more willing to break the law if you can at least play video games while on the inside? ;)
It does change the payoff matrix, doesn’t it?
The most interesting part is that they mention that the prison system doesn’t have the time to determine if a game is violent or not. If only there were some sort of rating system in place that would go ahead and rating the games for them. Oh wait… there is. Ignoring the very plausible fact that they just didn’t want games of any kind, it seems that the rating system could use some publicity to make people aware of it.
